Hollywood Bowl Technical Specifications

Technical Package 2008 Season

Introduction

Nestled snugly in the Hollywood Hills, the Hollywood Bowl is the largest natural amphitheater in the United States. Seating nearly 18,000 patrons, the Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra since 1991, and presents outdoor concert performances each summer featuring classical, popular, jazz, world music, pop and more, presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. Attendance figures over the past several decades have soared: in 1980 the Bowl first topped the half-million mark and last summer, close to one million admissions were recorded. The Bowl’s summer music festivals have become as much a part of a Southern California summer as beaches and barbecues, the Dodgers and Disneyland. The Bowl grounds themselves - one of Los Angeles County’s most renowned parks and a National Historical landmark - are open year-round for visitors to enjoy for free.

Theater Summary

The Hollywood Bowl Performing Arts Complex is comprised of outdoor seating, stage, stage wings, concessions, restrooms, parking and support facilities, surrounded by the native hillsides. The Hollywood Bowl is part of the County of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation park system. The stage, including stage right, left and backstage was replaced in 2004. The new facilities include a 7,000 square foot stage, stage right artist & dressing room area, backstage access and storage and stage left music room. The seating area houses 17,376 patrons in box seating, bench seating and a section of ‘super seats’. Within the house seating area, the lighting and audio booths are located. The facility includes concessions throughout the Park, offering a wide variety of food and drinks. Catering services are available. The Hollywood Bowl Museum is located along Pepper Tree lane. Restrooms are also located throughout the park. Parking is located behind the stage area, and in two parking lots along Highland Avenue, referred to as the Odin and Fairfield lots.
