The museum welcomes enthusiastic Bowl-lovers to apply to be volunteers. Be part of the Hollywood Bowl family, learn more about the Bowl, and earn free tickets!
There are two types of opportunities for museum volunteers: Gallery Guides and Docents.
Museum Volunteer: Gallery Guides
Gallery Guides welcome visitors to the museum, answer general questions about the Bowl, its facilities, its history, and current museum exhibits. Gallery Guides become very familiar with the exhibits (text, photographs, slides, audio, and video). Guides engage visitors in dialogue and help visitors use interactive portions of the exhibits. Gallery Guides must be able to stand in the museum throughout their shift. Shifts are generally from 5:30-8:30 p.m. during the summer season.
Museum Volunteer: Docents
Docents lead walking tours of the Hollywood Bowl and may assist with music education activities at the museum. They also must be able to answer questions about the Bowl, its facilities, and its history, and be very familiar with the museum's exhibits. Additional training is required, and docents must be able to climb the steps to the top of the Bowl. Tours are generally held Tuesday through Friday mornings year-round. Teaching background or equivalent experience is required.
Requirements and Perks
All volunteers must attend orientation sessions. Docent applicants must fill out an application stating their qualifications and interests. Volunteers must schedule their time in advance and make a commitment to fulfill their responsibilities. They must abide by rules of dress and deportment as outlined in Bowl Volunteer Policies.
Volunteers earn tickets to the Hollywood Bowl based on number of hours worked. Volunteers also have the opportunity to receive invitations to special events and concert opportunities. Most important, volunteers make new friends and become part of the Bowl family.
