Peninsula Committee

The Peninsula Committee, founded in 1952, supports the Los Angeles Philharmonic through fundraising and audience development, promotes youth music education, and fosters appreciation of music in the community. The Committee draws its membership from the Palos Verdes Peninsula and neighboring cities, and currently has 140 Active and Sustaining members. New members are admitted in January of each year.

Vibrant at 60!

The Peninsula Committee will celebrate its 60th birthday in 2012! We are confident that a vibrant future lies ahead, thanks to our veteran volunteers and our slate of new members. Our theme for the year is “Look Back — Move Forward.” While keeping our roots firmly grounded in cherished traditions, we are innovating with new approaches that will accomplish the mission and offer a rewarding membership experience. The strength of our group is “staying power.” As our President Ann Ehrenclou said, “If a person takes on a job, you can be sure it will be done, and ‘done right.’” We are prepared for a great year in 2012... and for the next 60!

Fundraising

The Peninsula Committee holds two major fundraising events each year. Our Grand Salon in the spring is an elegant musical event held in a local home and is oriented toward members and invited guests. Our Fall Fundraiser is held at a scenic venue on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and we welcome the general public to share performances by talented Southern California musicians.

Youth Activities

Locally, the committee helps to fund instrumental music instruction in the elementary grades, and provides financial support to the orchestras at our intermediate and high schools. In December, fifth graders are invited to a concert at the Norris Theatre, fully funded by the Peninsula Committee. We also provide energetic support for the Music Mobile program, making presentations at 22 schools and reaching 2,000 third graders throughout the South Bay. The Music Mobile van currently in use was donated to the Affiliates by the Peninsula Committee in 2005.

Music Outreach

The Peninsula Committee supports the Toyota Symphonies for Youth series by providing tickets for families to purchase. The committee also provides bus transportation for adults to the Philharmonic’s Friday midday series. Four Salons each year feature performances by outstanding musicians and expose our members to a broad range of musical genres. The Salons in May and September are open to prospective members. We host a number of other events during the year, all of which promote fellowship and allow us to share our passion for music.

Membership Requirements

Annual dues are $85. In addition, the purchase of one season ticket to the LA Phil Winter Concert Series (or a donation to the LA Phil Student/Braille Fund) is required. Additional requirements for new members are to participate in at least two Music Mobile presentations, help with Hospitality at the four Salons, and participate in activities by purchasing tickets to events and contributing volunteer hours toward Committee activities.
