Peninsula Committee

The Peninsula Committee, founded in 1952, supports the Los Angeles Philharmonic through fundraising and audience development, promotes youth music education, and fosters appreciation of music in the community. The Committee draws its membership from the Palos Verdes Peninsula and neighboring cities, and currently numbers almost 140 volunteers in several classes of membership.
Membership Con Brio
We are confident that a vibrant future lies ahead, thanks to our veteran volunteers and our slate of energetic new members. While keeping our roots firmly grounded in cherished traditions, we are innovating with new approaches that offer a rewarding membership experience. Notably, we have launched a new Professional class of membership designed to accommodate the schedules of professional women working full time, with admission under that class from June 2013.
Fundraising
The Peninsula Committee holds two major fundraisers each year. The Grand Salon in the spring is an elegant musical event that is held in a local home and is offered to members and invited guests. Our Fall Fundraiser features performances by talented Southern California musicians. It is open to the public and is held at a scenic venue on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
Youth Activities
Locally, the committee funds instrumental music instruction in the elementary grades, and provides financial support to the orchestras at our intermediate and high schools. In December, fifth graders are invited to a concert at the Norris Theatre, fully funded by the Peninsula Committee. We also support Music Mobile, serving 23 schools and reaching 2,000 third graders throughout the South Bay. The Music Mobile van currently in use was donated to the Affiliates by the Peninsula Committee in 2005.
Music Outreach
The Peninsula Committee supports the Toyota Symphonies for Youth series by providing tickets for families to purchase. The committee also provides bus transportation for adults to the Philharmonic's Friday midday series. Four Salons each year feature performances by outstanding musicians and expose our members to a broad range of musical genres. The Salons in May and September are open to prospective members. We host a number of other events during the year, all of which promote fellowship and allow us to share our passion for music.
Membership Requirements
Annual dues, volunteer hours, and other requirements are defined by class of membership. In addition, members must purchase one season ticket to the LA Phil Winter Concert Series, or make a donation to the LA Phil Student/Braille Fund.
