A two-hour documentary on Esa-Pekka Salonen’s tenure as the longest serving Music Director of the LA Philharmonic, featuring interviews with some of his closest collaborators such as Frank Gehry, Peter Sellars, Deborah Borda, Ernest Fleischmann, musicians of the LA Phil, and the commentary of Salonen himself. Also, concert performances by the LA Phil. Hosted and produced by Brian Lauritzen.

Live from Disney Hall: Esa-Pekka Salonen and the LA Phil
A live broadcast from Walt Disney Concert Hall of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s penultimate program as Music Director of the LA Philharmonic. Violinist Leila Josefowicz gives the world premiere of Salonen’s new Violin Concerto. The orchestra also performs Ligeti’s Clocks and Clouds and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. Co-hosted by Gail Eichenthal and Brian Lauritzen.

Esa-Pekka Salonen’s 1984 LA Phil Debut Concert
A special broadcast of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s first performance as a guest conductor with the LA Philharmonic, featuring Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major, and the West Coast Premiere of Lutoslawski’s Symphony No. 3. This concert was also Esa-Pekka Salonen’s US conducting debut. Hosted by (a very young) Gail Eichenthal.

Live from Disney Hall: Salonen’s Grand Finale
A live broadcast from Walt Disney Concert Hall of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s final performance as Music Director of the LA Philharmonic. The LA Master Chorale joins the orchestra for a semi-staged version of Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex as well as Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms. Peter Sellars directs. Co-hosted by Gail Eichenthal and Brian Lauritzen.
Sunday, April 26 – A new LA Phil broadcast season begins on Classical KUSC, with a new sole host and producer: Brian Lauritzen. Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts music of Falla, Debussy, and Ravel from the 2008-2009 season.
