LOU ANNE NEILL has been the Harpist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since her appointment by Carlo Maria Giulini in 1983.

Her activities with the Philharmonic have included solo appearances at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Hollywood Bowl, as well as concerts with the Philharmonic’s Green Umbrella and Chamber Music series.

Ms. Neill is an expert in harp music of the late twentieth-century and has premiered and recorded many new compositions.

She is the co-author of Writing for the Pedal Harp, A Standardized Manual for Composers and Harpists (University of California Press, 1985; 2^nd Edition, Vanderbilt Music, 2006) and co-producer of To Her Glory: A Tribute to Mother Earth, a five-minute 35mm film inspired by the music of George Frideric Handel.  From 1985 – 1987, this film was shown in film festivals in Ireland, Spain, Italy, and the U.S.

Lou Anne Neill has been on the UCLA faculty since 1981. She has also been on the faculties of UC Santa Barbara and California Institute of the Arts. Her degrees include a B.A. and a M.A. in Musicology from UCLA.

In 2006, Lou Anne started The Harp In Our Public Schools Project.  Free harp lessons are given to children from the 2^nd to the 12^th grades in the Lennox School District in South Los Angeles.  As of 2013, over 350 children have learned how to play the harp.
