About This Performance
Conductor Joana Carneiro celebrates music of the clarinet with two masters of the instrument and two concertos.
While composing his most famous work, Copland did not have its title. It wasn’t until just before the ballet’s premiere that Martha Graham suggested Appalachian Spring, a phrase from Hart Crane’s poem “The Bridge.” Interestingly, the word “Spring,” which is usually taken to refer to the season of the year, actually denotes a source of water.
