About This Performance
Although he lived another 15 years, Elgar completed nothing major after his Cello Concerto. There is endless speculation about the reasons – Elgar’s beloved wife Alice died five months after the Concerto’s premiere – but the ensuing silence makes the Concerto’s daringly crafted and emotionally harrowing conviction all the more poignant.
Johannes Moser applying his rich, gorgeous tone to Elgar’s autumnal lyricism.
Following the open vistas of Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony – a fireworks encore!
