About This Performance

The youthful Bringuier and the firebrand Yuja Wang team for an evening of music that is big, Russian, Romantic, and deeply passionate.

The Rach III has the reputation of being one of the most difficult of all piano concertos. Being one of the greatest pianists of his time, Rachmaninoff gave the first performance himself, in New York in 1909. He was also soloist in the second performance some time later, when it was conducted by none other than Gustav Mahler, an “experience Rachmaninoff treasured.”
