Jeff Gauthier

About this Artist

Violinist Jeff Gauthier has worked with a host of talented musicians in a variety of creative contexts, during a career that has spanned four decades.

As an improvising violinist he has performed and recorded with Nels Cline, Alex Cline, Yusef Lateef, Adam Rudolph, Nicole Mitchell, Mark Dresser, Myra Melford, Vinny Golia, Todd Sickafoose, Steuart Liebig, and many others. His own ensemble, The Jeff Gauthier Goatette has recorded six albums for Cryptogramophone Records.  He currently performs, records and writes music for his improvising duo “The Smudges” with his wife, ‘cellist Maggie Parkins.

In the world of classical music, Jeff performed regularly with the Los Angeles Music Center Opera, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Long Beach Symphony, Oregon Bach Festival and Carmel Bach Festival.

In the world of nonprofits, he has been executive director of the Jazz Bakery, co-artistic director of the Angel City Jazz Festival with Rocco Somazzi, and co-founder and executive director of Angel City Arts, its nonprofit parent organization.  He was also Executive Director of Piano Spheres, a 31-year-old presenter of contemporary piano music in Los Angeles.
