About this Artist

NELLIE MCKAY was signed to Columbia Records in 2003 and shortly thereafter began recording her debut album, a two-CD set titled Get Away From Me. Following the album’s release in February 2004, critics praised her for her audacious humor and eclectic style.

In 2003 and 2004 McKay opened for Cyndi Lauper; for Lou Reed at Carnegie Hall; for Sting in Europe; and for the Barenaked Ladies and Alanis Morissette on their Northeast and West Coast dates. She has also appeared on numerous television shows, including The View, the CBS Early Show, Live with Regis and Kelly, and The Late Show with David Letterman.

Recent performances include a benefit at Carnegie Hall for Tibet House; a broadcast with Cyndi Lauper, Boyz II Men, and Alicia Keys at the Great Wall of China benefiting the China Children and Teenagers’ Fund; and a duet of her single “It’s a Pose” with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and the Max Weinberg Seven at the Beacon Theatre in a show to benefit the McCarton School, which specializes in treatment of autistic children.

McKay is currently recording her second studio album in addition to working on television, theater, and film projects and performing live at Lincoln Center as part of the Great American Songbook series.
