About this Artist

DAVID MILLER is recognized as one of the finest young American tenors. He has performed with leading opera companies throughout North America in roles which have included Des Grieux in Manon, Romeo in Roméo et Juliette, the title role in Werther, Alfredo in La traviata, and Tamino in The Magic Flute. In 2000 he also made highly praised debuts with the Australian Opera and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

Miller appeared as Rodolfo in the Broadway production of La bohème directed by Baz Luhrmann. He was most recently seen at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile, as Tebaldo in their production of Bellini's The Capulets and the Montagues, which tours to the Savonlinna Festival in August.

In 2001/2002, Miller made his debut with the Flemish Opera as Cassio in Otello and also debuted in Trieste with Manon under Daniel Oren. In the United States he sang his first Hoffmann in The Tales of Hoffmann in Hartford, Connecticut. The 2002/2003 season included the world premiere of Marco Tuttino's opera Vita at La Scala.

During the 2000/2001 season, Miller appeared in the role of Percy in Donizetti's Anna Bolena in Pittsburgh with John Mauceri on the podium. Other roles in Pittsburgh have included the Duke in Rigoletto, Alfredo in La traviata, and Romeo in Roméo et Juliette.

Locally, Miller has performed in La traviata and as Tamino in The Magic Flute with Opera Pacific. In the fall of 1999, he made his debut with the Los Angeles Opera as Tebaldo in Bellini's The Capulets and the Montagues. Other roles in his developing operatic repertoire include Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Belmonte in The Abduction from the Seraglio, and Tom Rakewell in The Rake's Progress.

David Miller received his Master's Degree in Opera Theatre and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Miller was a member of the Pittsburgh Opera Center, and he first came to attention after his highly acclaimed Washington Opera debut in March 1997 as Alfredo in La traviata.
