About this Artist
GLENN PAULSON is the former timpanist of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, and has been a member of the American Symphony and the Bard Summer Music Festival. He has also performed with the EOS Chamber Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and in many Broadway shows.
As a sophomore in college he spent the summer attending the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute on the campus of UCLA, even given a chance to play timpani with the LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl.
In 1997, he won a position with “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in Washington DC. He can be heard on over 25 recordings with the Marine Band, the Orquestra Ciutat de Barcelona, the Eastman Wind Ensemble, the New Jersey Symphony, and the Bronx Arts Ensemble.
He is serving his third term on the Percussive Arts Society Symphonic Committee and helped create a new exhibit featuring various military percussion sections in the PAS museum in Indianapolis opening next month.
Today is the five-year anniversary of a hit-and-run near-death mountain bike accident near Chehalis, Washington. Glenn was told by his team of doctors at the former Walter Read Hospital to find a therapy to help with the brain injury recovery, including music and writing. He began to compose and has had numerous compositions premiered at the Percussive Arts Society International Conventions, the College Band Directors National Convention, the New York City Day of Percussion at New York University, the Texas Band Masters Convention, and, most recently, John Phillip Sousa Hall in Washington DC. All the works have now been published by Bachovich Publications.
He also began presenting master classes at colleges, universities, and music conservatories throughout the country on how the Marine Band percussion section interprets and plays the marches of John Phillip Sousa, with upcoming presentations in England and Norway.
He received his Bachelor’s degree from The Eastman School of Music and his Master’s degree from The Juilliard School.
He resides in Waldorf, MD with his nine-year-old daughter Karra, inspiration for most of his compositional ideas; she thinks of the tittles of most of his compositions.
Glenn Paulson’s performance today is in an unofficial capacity and neither “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, The U.S. Marine Corps nor any other component of the Department of Defense or the U.S. Government has endorsed this activity.
