Jingjing Xu

Jingjing Xu is a Chinese mezzo-soprano praised for her expressive artistry and wide-ranging repertoire. A native of Wuhu, she completed her Master’s degree in 2023 at McGill University, where she won the Wirth Vocal Prize. The following year, she won the 2024 Mirjam Helin Competition as the youngest participant.
Xu made her operatic debut in 2022 in the title role in Handel’s Orlando at McGill University. She has since appeared in oratorio and recital performances, including Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, Duruflé’s Requiem, and Handel’s Messiah. She has performed with the Canadian Opera Company, Montreal’s Société d’Art Vocal, and at the Organ Night & Aria Festival in Finland. In February 2025, she sang with the Oulu Symphony Orchestra, and in summer 2025, she made her debut at the Bregenz Festival, performing the title role in La Cenerentola.
Beyond opera and oratorio, Xu is recognized for her compelling interpretation of art song. She and her duo partner, Christopher Knopp, attended the Franz-Schubert-Institut in 2023, studying with Elly Ameling, Robert Holl, and Roger Vignoles.
Xu’s primary mentors and voice instructors are Annamaria Popescu and Jie Zhou, and she works closely with coaches Michael McMahon and Esther Gonthier. She has also participated in master classes with James Vaughan, Graham Johnson, Jeff Cohen, Pierre Vallet, and Helmut Deutsch.
