About this Piece

The evening will begin with an energetic samul nori drum performance, where drummers play traditional percussion instruments like the janggu (hourglass drum) and buk (barrel drum), filling the theater with lively Korean folk rhythms.

Following the drum performance, we will present a series of traditional dances that capture the essence of Korea, from the royal courts to rural villages. The buchaechum (fan dance) will showcase the graceful beauty of nature through vibrant movements with fans, blending traditional and modern dance elements. The Jindo drum dance, a celebratory village dance, represents the strength and spirit of the people, with its rhythmic drumming symbolizing the warding off of bad spirits and inviting good fortune. Our Arirang dance, inspired by Korea’s beloved folk song, reflects themes of love, longing, and resilience. The evening will conclude with the captivating hwankwanmu (flower crown dance), a royal court dance symbolizing elegance and dignity.
