East meets West in a classic battle of the bands with a twist at the Hollywood Bowl on Wednesday, August 21 at 8 p.m. Two of the finest jazz big bands - The Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra - meet for one night only to play jazz standards and classic big band hits. The concert will feature a tribute to the immortal Count Basie, who was born on August 21, 1904. The evening is also the penultimate concert for the decade-old Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, which will disband shortly afterwards. This is the seventh concert of KLON's Jazz at the Bowl series.

Backbeat Live pre-concert events take place at the Patio, one hour prior to the Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday concerts; free to all ticket holders. The August 21 session features a performance by the Mancini Institute Ensemble.

KLON's Jazz at the Bowl concludes with a concert featuring Chick Corea, with Gary Burton, Three Quartets featuring Michael Brecker, the Elektric Band, and Flora Purim & Airto Moreira, on August 28.

Since its debut in 1992, THE CARNEGIE HALL JAZZ BAND has earned a reputation as one of the most esteemed ensembles in jazz. Led by music director/trumpeter Jon Faddis, the band is known for its distinct programs that feature new arrangements of classic works that celebrate jazz greats and new styles. The band has performed at Carnegie Hall, toured internationally, and has released two CDs. This will be penultimate concert as a band. Jon Faddis last performed at the Hollywood Bowl in 2000.

Co-led by bassist John Clayton, sax player Jeff Clayton, and drummer Jeff Hamilton, the CLAYTON-HAMILTON JAZZ ORCHESTRA has received critical and commercial praise for its rousing live concert performances and award-winning recordings. From 1999 to 2001, the band served as the resident jazz orchestra for the Hollywood Bowl, and in addition to performing on its own, the orchestra is in demand by artists such as Quincy Jones, Diana Krall, Benny Carter, and Dr. John.
