    WHAT:

    LA Phil Creative Chair John Adams leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group in a program of premieres by up-and-coming composers in the final Green Umbrella concert of the season at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Tuesday, May 24, at 8 p.m. Featured are the world premieres of three LA Phil-commissioned works – Dissolve, Oh my Heart, for solo violin by composer Missy Mazzoli, Orinoco Sketches by eclectic singer/songwriter/composer and California native Gabriel Kahane, and Try by composer Andrew Norman. Also presented is the West Coast premiere of Steven Mackey’s Four Iconoclastic Episodes, a four-movement double concerto for violin, electric guitar and string orchestra. Gabriel Kahane is vocal soloist and also doubles on guitar and keyboards in his work, violinist Jennifer Koh performs in the Mazzoli and Mackey works, and Steven Mackey plays the electric guitar in his composition.

    An Upbeat Live pre-concert event takes place in Walt Disney Concert Hall’s BP Hall one hour prior to the concert, and is free to all ticket holders. LA Phil VP of Artistic Planning Chad Smith hosts.
