  • Award-Winning Singer/Songwriter Judy Collins Makes Her Walt Disney Concert Hall Debut in LA Phil 2011/12 Songbook Series Concert
  • Feb. 11, 2012
  • SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2012, AT 8 PM

    WHAT:

Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Judy Collins, known for her otherworldly voice and eclectic tastes, brings her unique blend of folk and pop to the Walt Disney Concert Hall stage, Saturday, February 11, at 8 pm. Collins accompanies herself on guitar and piano, performing selections from contemporaries, as well as her latest release Bohemian, which is inspired by her recollections of the southern California scene of the 1960s. Bohemian was released on her own Wildflower Records, a grass-roots driven label committed to nurturing fresh talent. The concert is part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 2011/12 Songbook series.

Judy Collins’ career has spanned more than 50 years, beginning with her public debut, at the age of 13, performing Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos. Shortly after, she moved away from classical piano and began her lifelong love with the guitar. In addition to Bohemian, she recently released her memoir, “Sweet Judy Blue Eyes” (Crown/Random House) and a children’s book/CD, “When You Wish Upon a Star” (Imagine/Peter Yarrow Books).

Each year since its inception, the LA Phil Songbook series has brought audiences some of the most cherished evenings of American song. The 2011/12 series concludes with Elaine Stritch “Singin’ Sondheim…One Song at a Time” (May 19, 2012).
