Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio joins conductor Scott Dunn and the Los Angeles Philharmonic for orchestrations of classic Phish tunes and solo Anastasio compositions at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Over the past 25 years, Trey Anastasio has established himself as a prolific composer, masterful guitarist (named by Rolling Stone as one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time) and compelling performer. He is a founding member of the Grammy-nominated, genre-melding rock band Phish. Renowned for its live performances, Phish is regularly included on the Top Ten Grossing Concert Tours in North America and Worldwide, and its series of self-produced festivals is widely regarded as a precursor to the current rock festival boom.
Drawing inspiration from experimental jazz, pop, reggae, metal, classical and barbershop music, Trey Anastasio has produced eight solo albums and is a curious and constant composer. In 2009, Anastasio made his debut with the New York Philharmonic and Baltimore Symphony in programs that featured his concerto for electric guitar and orchestra, Time Turns Elastic, as well as original compositions. Anastasio is currently working on a new musical with composer/lyricist Amanda Green called Hands on a Hard Body "based on the 1997 documentary about a pickup-truck competition in Longview, TX.” (Playbill)
The original program for Trey Anastasio’s performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic will consist of songs taken from Phish and Anastasio's solo repertoire.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, under the vibrant leadership of Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, presents an inspiring array of music from all genres – orchestral, chamber and Baroque music, organ and celebrity recitals, new music, jazz, world music and pop – at two of L.A.’s iconic venues, Walt Disney Concert Hall (www.laphil.com) and the Hollywood Bowl (www.hollywoodbowl.com). The LA Phil’s season at Walt Disney Concert Hall extends from October through May, and throughout the summer at the Hollywood Bowl. With the preeminent Los Angeles Philharmonic at the foundation of its offerings, the LA Phil aims to enrich and transform lives through music, with a robust mix of artistic, education and community programs.
