    SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM
    PALOS VERDES HIGH SCHOOL

Featuring Two Performances by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Conducted by Miguel Harth-Bedoya & Randall Craig Fleischer

On Sunday, September 29, the 30th Peninsula Music Fair, presented by the Peninsula Committee for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, takes place at a new location on the grounds of Palos Verdes High School. Parents are encouraged to bring the entire family for a festive day of crafts, food, and music, designed to appeal to children of all ages, from 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Everyone will find something special to enjoy at the Peninsula Fair's all-day schedule of events featuring an eclectic array of music and performance: from jazz to world, from classical to pops, from dance to storytelling. The Los Angeles Philharmonic gives two family performances: at 1:30 p.m. with conductor Randall Craig Fleischer, and at 3:30 p.m. with Associate Conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya.

At 1:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Philharmonic performs a children's concert featuring American works such as Copland's Billy the Kid and Rodeo, and music from Grofé's Grand Canyon Suite, conducted by Randall Craig Fleischer and hosted by charismatic storyteller David Prather.

At 3:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Philharmonic performs a family concert conducted by Associate Conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya including Piazzolla's Tangazo, Mozart's Symphony No. 36 ("Linz"), and Ginastera's Variaciones concertantes.

Afternoon events include Prather's Poetry Jam, an energetic presentation reveling in the rhythm and rhyme of poetry presented by David Prather, who also hosts Open House at the Hollywood Bowl and appears at the Toyota Symphonies for Youth concerts at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Children's musical education specialist Sandra Clay, composer John Zeretzke, and music educator Ann Ehrenclou will lead workshops for children of all ages. An afternoon Children's Parade concludes with a patriotic puppet show by Jim Gamble entitled Celebrate America.

Other highlights of this year's Fair include performances by three-time Grammy-award-nominated jazz pianist David Benoit, and Spanish-born classical guitar virtuoso Angel Romero. The Pacific Harmony String Quartet, featuring members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, also performs, as will a dance troupe of colorful and dramatic flamenco dancers; the Cajun, Mexican, rock, and folk influenced band Rick Shea and the Losin' End; the Firebird Quartet, a balalaika ensemble whose traditional instruments bring the heritage of Russia and the Ukraine to life; and pianist Esther Keel, a Chadwick School student and winner of national and international awards.

Convenient street parking is available; free all-day shuttle services depart to the high school from designated points along Palos Verdes Drive West and Paseo Del Mar. Handicapped parking is available on campus. Local restaurants, including The Red Onion, Misto Caffe and Bakery, and Jacaranda Gourmet Food provide picnic fare for the Fair. Other snacks and refreshments are available for purchase.

The Peninsula Fair is presented by the Peninsula Committee for the Los Angeles Philharmonic which has functioned as a volunteer group since 1952. The Fair's proceeds benefit the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The 2002 Peninsula Fair is co-chaired by Carol Hart and Joyce Robertson. The Music Fair President is Val Noguchi.
