WHAT:       Famed violinist Itzhak Perlman returns to the Hollywood Bowl, this time with his Eternal Echoes program, Tuesday, August 20, at 8 pm. This unique program features Perlman, Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot and the Klezmer Conservatory Band, led by Music Director Hankus Netsky and conductor Russell Ger, performing beloved Jewish liturgical and traditional works in arrangements with klezmer musicians and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Itzhak Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician. Beloved for his charm and humanity as well as his talent, he is treasured by audiences throughout the world, who respond not only to his remarkable artistry, but also to the irrepressible joy of making music which he communicates. Perlman is also a frequent presence on the conductor’s podium and has performed as a conductor and violinist with the major orchestras throughout the world. A major presence in the performing arts on television, Perlman has been honored with four Emmy Awards, most recently for the PBS documentary Fiddling for the Future, a film about the Perlman Music Program and his work as a teacher and conductor there. His recordings regularly appear on the best-seller charts and have garnered 15 Grammy awards. His most recent releases include an all-Mozart recording with the Berlin Philharmonic (EMI) with Perlman performing as both soloist and conductor and a recording for Deutsche Grammophon with Perlman conducting the Israel Philharmonic.

Admired for his incredible range, Chief Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot is beloved and revered as one of the greatest and most important cantorial voices of the 21st century. He enthralls audiences the world over with his passion and unbounded joy in bringing sacred Jewish music and opera classics to life. Cantor Helfgot appears regularly in concerts, as well as serving as guest cantor for communities around the globe. He leaves audiences spellbound with his masterful renditions of classics by Rosenblatt, Koussevitzky, Kwartin, Sirota, and Hershman, transporting audiences back to the Golden Era of Chazzanut. Cantor Helfgot has collaborated with some of the greatest cantors and musicians of our time, including Cantor Chaim Adler, Jimmy Barnes, comedian Elon Gold, and Itzhak Perlman. Cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot currently serves as Chief Cantor of the Park East Synagogue in New York City.

The Klezmer Conservatory Band, founded by Hankus Netsky, is playing a prominent role in the revival of klezmer music. For more than 20 year, the band has performed concerts from coast to coast, and has many recordings. The band now regularly tours Europe, and has also appeared at Australia’s Adelaide Festival, New Zealand’s International Festival of the Arts, and the Dranouter Folk Festival in Belgium. The band appeared in a PBS special with renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman called In the Fiddler’s House, filmed in Krakow, Poland and New York. The program traced the Klezmer roots of Perlman’s artistry and featured the soulful sounds of the KCB. A joint recording on EMI was released in the fall of 1995 (live version was released in the fall of 1996), and “In the Fiddler’s House” concerts were performed in major venues. The Klezmer Conservatory Band includes: Ilene Stahl, clarinet; Mark Berney, cornet; Mark Hamilton, trombone; Peter Rushefsky, tsimbl; Hankus Netsky, piano; Jim Guttmann, acoustic bass; and Grant Smith, drums.
