  • NEW LA PHIL FRIDAY SERIES “INSIDE THE MUSIC WITH BRIAN LAURITZEN” OFFERS DEEPER INSIGHT INTO MUSIC WITH VIDEO ELEMENTS, PRE- AND POST-CONCERT CONVERSATIONS, AND INTERACTIVE CONTENT
  • Sep. 10, 2014
  • Los Angeles, September 10, 2014 – Dedicated to empowering audiences to have fulfilling and connected concert experiences, the LA Phil is excited to premiere a new Friday concert series at Walt Disney Concert Hall for the 2014/15 season: Inside the Music with Brian Lauritzen. This new series is a ticket to a guided journey through four diverse orchestral concerts and an invitation to learn about the music, discover ways it intersects with our lives, and experience concerts in a whole new way. Award-winning KUSC classical radio personality and modern music journalist Brian Lauritzen hosts this five-part experience in concert-going.

    • One week before each concert, patrons will be sent dynamic videos in which Lauritzen explores both inside and outside the walls of Walt Disney Concert Hall to provide unique perspectives on the program, and the relevance and reflection of the LA Phil’s music throughout Los Angeles.  Video highlights include:
    • A behind the scenes tour of the Walt Disney Concert Hall organ with organ builder Manuel Rosales
    • A discussion with a scientist who maps music so we can see the engineering behind what we hear
    • An animated journey through the plot behind the opera behind Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 3
    • A guide to approaching a new piece of music
    • A look at one of the hardest hitting percussion instruments in the classical canon, the Mahler Hammer
    • Preceding every concert, Lauritzen will join patrons in the concert hall for a deeper dive into the programmed music, including conversations and bonus performances from special and expert guests.
    • The concert itself, unvaried from the full-length subscription program, is an opportunity to apply new knowledge and experience a deeper relationship with the music.
    • Immediately following the concert, Lauritzen will host an interactive post-performance question and answer session with guest artists, LA Phil musicians, conductors and more.
    • The experience continues after leaving Walt Disney Concert Hall with an online game based on the Inside the Music program and a chance to win perks with the LA Phil.

Each content-rich element of the series can stand alone or be combined, giving patrons a choice in how they connect to the music, composers, artists, collaborators, and instruments that make each concert exceptional.
