  • KUSC AND NPR MUSIC TO BROADCAST LIVE: GUSTAVO DUDAMEL AND THE LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC AT WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2014 AT 8:00 PM

    WHAT: On Thursday, October 2 at 8 p.m., public radio station Classical KUSC (91.5 FM) will broadcast live from Walt Disney Concert Hall Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the first subscription concert of the 2014/15 season, along with a live, national, audio-only webcast on NPR Music’s website. The broadcast will be hosted by Gail Eichenthal and Brian Lauritzen, and will also feature artist and musician interviews during intermission. The program begins with the U.S. premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang’s new percussion concerto man made, featuring Sō Percussion. Dudamel concludes the program with Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. Performances of this program continue on Oct. 3 at 11 a.m.; Oct. 4 at 8 p.m.; and Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. Sō Percussion also returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall for a Green Umbrella program of Lang’s the so-called laws of nature and Michael Gordon’s Timber, on Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. 

    The following week, Oct. 9 – 12, Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic welcome back pianist Leif Ove Andsnes in the Beethoven Cycle Finale, performing the composer’s Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor.” The program also includes John Adams’ Harmonium and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy. The concerts on Oct. 11 and 12 will be broadcast at a later date by KUSC and American Public Media (APM).
