July 13-17
New Orleans, Featuring The Treme Brass Band
SummerSounds opens with a taste of musical gumbo with bold brass, fiery improvisation and spirited rhythm in this celebration of the birthplace of jazz, featuring quintessential New Orleans music ensemble The Treme Brass Band.
On July 15th, The Treme Brass Band will be hosting a master class for the LA Phil’s Student Insiders: Musicians program. The band will be teaching a younger generation of musicians, not only how to perform their unique style of music, but also about the traditions and history that The Treme Brass Band brings to their community. The class will also include a conversation remembering Hurricane Katrina as this year marks the 10th anniversary since the natural disaster hit their beloved city of New Orleans, greatly affecting the band. This opportunity will allow students to learn about the pre-jazz style of music from a treasured band and experience New Orleans street music.
July 20-24
Polynesia & Hawaii, Featuring Hālau Ka Ua Tuahine
Explore the rich history of the Pacific Islands through enchanting and diverse music and dance. Learn about the deep-rooted and powerful tradition of storytelling through song, drumming, and dance that are a staple of Polynesian cultures with Hālau Ka Ua Tuahine.
July 27-31
Middle East, Featuring Yuval Ron Ensemble
Take an exciting look at the sound, color, and motion of the Middle East. The Yuval Ron Ensemble features artists from different cultures and regions coming together to unite musical traditions in a unique celebration, with songs from Turkey, Morocco, Yemen, Israel and Armenia.
August 3-7
Brazil, Featuring Kátia Moreas Ensemble with Viver BraSil

One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the HOLLYWOOD BOWL has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, and plays host to the finest artists from all genres of music. It remains one of the best deals anywhere in Los Angeles; to this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many classical and jazz offerings. The venue offers something for everyone, from its sizzling summer evening concerts to the daytime arts festival for children, “SummerSounds: World Music for Kids at the Hollywood Bowl,” now in its 48th season. In February 2015, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the eleventh year in a row at the 26th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards.
