    Dudamel leads his first Los Angeles Philharmonic performances of CARMINA BURANA

    Los Angeles, CA (July 13, 2015) – LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, in his sixth summer season at the Hollywood Bowl, leads a series of six concerts to celebrate the his tenth anniversary of his Hollywood Bowl debut. In this two week period Dudamel gives his first Los Angeles performances of Carmina Burana; conducts the Hollywood Bowl’s annual Tchaikovsky Spectacular for the first time; leads an all-Mendelssohn program featuring Bryce Dallas Howard as narrator of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and violinist Gil Shaham performing the composer’s Violin Concerto; and welcomes pianist Alice Sara Ott in her venue debut in an all-Mozart program.

    On July 21 & 23, Dudamel is joined by soprano Joélle Harvey, tenor Lawrence Brownlee, and baritone Brian Mulligan, for his Los Angeles premiere of Carmina Burana along with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and the National Children’s Chorus. The program opens with Eric Whitacre’s Her Sacred Spirit Soars and Equus.

    On July 24 & 25, Dudamel leads the Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks – a beloved annual tradition at the Hollywood Bowl – for the first time. Also on the program is Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 – which Dudamel conducted during his U.S. debut appearance at the Hollywood Bowl ten years ago in 2005 –along with selections from Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

    For one night only on Tues. July 28, the Hollywood Bowl is transformed into an enchanted forest for A Midsummer Night with Dudamel. Opening the program, Gil Shaham joins Dudamel for a performance of Mendelssohn’s iconic Violin Concerto. Mendelssohn’s incidental music for A Midsummer Night’s Dream is enriched by projected visuals created by director Alberto Arvelo. Bryce Dallas Howard will narrate, bringing Shakespeare’s words to life, with soprano Deanna Breiwick and mezzo-soprano Jennifer Holloway, and the women of the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

    Dudamel concludes his summer concerts at the Hollywood Bowl on Thurs. July 30 with pianist Alice Sara Ott, soprano Miah Persson, and bass-baritone Gerald Finley in an all-Mozart program, showcasing the composer’s beloved opera arias, orchestral selections and his Piano Concerto No. 21, K. 467.
