Amazon’s original dramatic comedy Mozart in the Jungle is to film part of an upcoming episode at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic during the Thursday, July 30 “Mozart with Dudamel” performance. Actor Gael Garcia Bernal (Rosewater) plays the role of Rodrigo DeSouza, the fictional conductor of the imaginary New York Symphony, and will be filmed during the second part of this concert guest conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic performance of Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro.
Based on the critically acclaimed memoir Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs & Classical Music by Blair Tindall, Mozart in the Jungle is seen through the eyes of a young oboist, Hailey, who tries to navigate through the egos and eccentricities of the renowned New York Symphony, and its new conductor Rodrigo, an enfant terrible whose passion for music threatens the plans of the orchestra’s old guard. The musicians themselves, a colorful family of disparate personalities, are struggling to deal with this new regime. The series also stars Saffron Burrows, Hannah Dunne, Lola Kirke, Malcolm McDowell and Bernadette Peters and has just been renewed for a second series of which this performance will be a part, scheduled to air in early 2016.
