LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC AND CLASSICAL KUSC CONTINUE PARTNERSHIP TO BROADCAST 2015 HOLLYWOOD BOWL CONCERTS 

10-Week Series Airs on Classical KUSC

KUSC Broadcast Series of Los Angeles Philharmonic Made Possible

Los Angeles, CA (August 5, 2015) – Ten Los Angeles Philharmonic concerts from the current Hollywood Bowl season will be broadcast on Classical KUSC’s SoCal Sunday Night series, the station’s weekly spotlight on local concerts, beginning Sunday, August 9 at 7:00 PM. This is the ninth year of the orchestra’s summer partnership with Southern California’s listener-sponsored classical music radio station.

The concerts are recorded live on select nights at the Hollywood Bowl featuring the LA Phil with a superb roster of artists and conductors. Hosted and produced by KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen and executive produced by KUSC’s Kelsey McConnell, the programs air weekly at 7:00 PM on Sundays from August 9 through October 11, and are heard throughout much of Southern California on 91.5 Classical KUSC, 88.5 KPSC in Palm Springs, 91.1 KDSC in Thousand Oaks, 99.7 KESC in Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo, and 93.7 KDB in Santa Barbara. The programs can also be heard online at KUSC.org. Most concerts will be available for online streaming for one week following the broadcast. Interviews and features with soloists and orchestra members throughout the series offer unique insights and give listeners a more in-depth perspective. The project is made possible through support from the office of Former Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.

The series opens Sunday, August 9 at 7:00 PM with a broadcast of Conductor Lionel Bringuier leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic and dynamic pianist Yuja Wang in Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Debussy’s La Mer, and Ravel’s Bolero (recorded on July 7).

August 16 broadcast of conductor Lionel Bringuier leading the LA Phil and cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan in a program of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite along with Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations and Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy (recorded July 9).

August 23 broadcast of conductor Bramwell Tovey leading the LA Phil in a program of Beethoven favorites: Egmont Overture, Violin Concerto, and Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral” with Principal Concertmaster Martin Chalifour. (recorded July 16).

August 30 broadcast of Music and Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel conducting the LA Phil, Joélle Harvey (soprano), Lawrence Brownlee (tenor), Brian Mulligan (baritone), Los Angeles Master Chorale, Artistic Director Grant Gershon, and the National Children’s Chorus, Artistic Director Luke McEndarfer in Orff’s Carmina Burana (recorded July 21 & 23).

September 6 broadcast of the LA Phil led by Dudamel and violinist Gil Shaham in a program of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and A Midsummer Night’s Dream with narrator Bryce Dallas Howard and Women of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Artistic Director Grant Gershon (recorded July 28).

September 13 broadcast of Dudamel conducting the LA Phil and pianist Alice Sara Ott, soprano Miah Persson and bass-baritone Gerald Finley in an all-Mozart program (recorded July 30).

October 4 broadcast of Lahav Shani conducting the LA Phil and pianist Khatia Buniatishvili in a program of Glinka, Rachmaninoff, and Dvorak (to be recorded September 8).

October 11 broadcast of conductor Pablo Heras-Casado as he leads the LA Phil and Jean-Yves Thibaudet (piano) in a program of Gershwin and Berlioz (to be recorded September 10).
