The Los Angeles Philharmonic Gala is Made Possible with the Proud Support of Rolex, the Official Timepiece of the Los Angeles Philharmonic

    WHAT:

The Los Angeles Philharmonic opens its 2015/16 season – presenting one conductor, Music and Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, and two orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela (SBSOV) – in its Opening Night Gala: The Brilliance of Beethoven. The black-tie event takes place at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Tuesday, September 29, at 7 pm.

The all-Beethoven gala celebration also launches the LA Phil’s Immortal Beethoven festival. Dudamel conducts the program which includes excerpts from two dramatic works, Egmont and Creature of Prometheus, not found elsewhere in the festival programming. The Egmont excerpts feature soprano Kiera Duffy, and the following dancers of Barak Ballet in the finale with choreography by Melissa Barak: Jessica Gadzinski, Hannah Wilcox, Mauro Villanueva, Evan Swenson and Ryan Camou.

The Opening Night Concert concludes with the large combined orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale and vocal soloists that include soprano Mariana Ortiz, mezzo-soprano J’nai Bridges, tenor Joshua Guerrero, and bass Soloman Howard, performing the final “Ode to Joy” movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

In addition to enjoying these incredible works that incorporate elements of dance and narration, patrons will also have the opportunity to waltz to a selection of Viennese dances performed live by members of the LA Phil and SBSOV pre-concert in BP Hall.
