WHAT:
Spanish pianist Javier Perianes will replace Pierre-Laurent Aimard in this weekend’s subscription concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Friday, October 7, at 8 pm, as well as Saturday and Sunday, October 8 and 9, at 2 pm. Aimard has withdrawn due to a family emergency. The program, led by Pablo Heras-Casado and featuring Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso (except Friday), Ravel’s Concerto in G, performed by Perianes, and Stravinsky’s The Firebird, remains unchanged.
This weekend’s concerts will be Javier Perianes’ LA Phil debut. 2016 has already been an important year of US debuts for Perianes, who performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony and New York Philharmonic earlier in the season and also made his Carnegie Hall debut with the Orchestra of St Luke’s in March. Perianes is scheduled to return to North America in February 2017, performing for the first time with Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and Vasily Petrenko.
The Friday program is part of the LA Phil’s Casual Fridays series, which provides patrons the opportunity to connect with the music and musicians in an engaging yet informal atmosphere. The evening includes an introduction from an orchestra member and a slightly shorter program with no intermission. Following the performance is a TalkBack Q&A with the artists on stage and a complimentary beer tasting hosted by Indie Brewing Company and Strand Brewing Co. During the tasting, attendees can mingle with orchestra members.
Pablo Heras-Casado enjoys an unusually varied career encompassing the great symphonic and operatic repertoire, historically informed performance and cutting-edge contemporary scores. In 2016/17 he returns to the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras, San Francisco Symphony, and the Philharmonia Orchestra. He is re-invited to the Münchner Philharmoniker, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Salzburg’s Mozartwoche. He continues his touring and recording partnerships with the Balthasar Neumann Chor & Ensemble in Monteverdi’s [italics] Selva morale e spirituale, and Freiburger Barockorchester, focusing on the works of Mendelssohn, including his violin concerto with Isabelle Faust. Opera projects include Le nozze de Figaro [opera titles in italics] at Staatsoper Berlin, Carmen with Orchestre de Paris at Festival d’Aix en Provence, and Der Fliegende Holländer at Teatro Real.
Javier Perianes’ flourishing international career spans five continents, taking him to some of the world’s most prestigious halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Barbican, Royal Festival and Wigmore Halls in London, the Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris, Berlin’s Philarmonie, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. Upcoming debuts include the Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Hamburger Symphoniker, Rundfunk-Sinfonieonieorchester Berlin and Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. This season he returns to, among others, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. Perianes has also appeared with Wiener Philhamoniker, Chicago, Boston and Atlanta symphony orchestras, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Münchner Philharmoniker, Frankfurt Radio, Finnish Radio and Yomiuri Nippon symphony orchestras and London Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic and Tonkunstler Orchester. Other highlights include international tours with Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern and Orquesta Nacional de España, as well as a month-long-tour with orchestras in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore and a recital tour of North and South America. Perianes records exclusively for harmonia mundi. This season, Perianes returns to the studio to record Schubert’s Sonata in B flat major, D.960 and Sonata in A major D.664 as well as making a live recording of Bartók’s Piano Concerto No.3 with the Münchner Philharmoniker and Pablo Heras-Casado.
