Staged Performances, Video Projections and other Creative Visual Elements Included in Select Concerts at Walt Disney Concert Hall
Los Angeles, October 19, 2016 - in/SIGHT - presentations from the Los Angeles Philharmonic featuring staged performances, video projections and other creative visual elements - continues for the 2016/17 season at Walt Disney Concert Hall. For seven different programs, multi-media components will be incorporated to enhance the concert experience for audiences.
For the first in/Sight concerts, the Los Angeles Philharmonic will perform the scores of three iconic films live-to-picture: Rebel Without a Cause, On the Waterfront and Casablanca. Scott Dunn will conduct the orchestra in the world premiere of Rebel Without a Cause with a live orchestra, and conductor David Newman will lead the presentations of On the Waterfront and Casablanca.
The next concert will feature LA Phil Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel conducting the orchestra in performances of Haydn's The Creation, accompanied by a new video installation from Venezuelan filmmaker Alberto Arvelo.
For the orchestra's final presentation of 2016, Los Angeles Master Chorale Artistic Director Grant Gershon will lead a performance of John Adams' retelling of the Christmas story, El Niño. The December 16 performance will include video from innovative opera and theater director Peter Sellars.
Later in the season, John Adams will conduct his opera about President Richard Nixon's unprecedented visit to China in 1972, Nixon in China. Directed by Elkhanah Pulitzer, this semi-staged presentation will include a set and video projections for Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The final in/SIGHT production of the season will be LA Phil's new Artist-Collaborator Yuval Sharon's presentation of Lou Harrison's Young Caesar with his experimental opera company The Industry.
