Full Season to be Announced in February 2019
Los Angeles, CA (November 19, 2018) – The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association announced today the first details of the 2019 Hollywood Bowl summer season, with the entire season to be announced in February 2019.
One of pop history’s most inventive, successful and enduring artists, Nile Rodgers & CHIC are set for the July 4th Fireworks Spectacular, with three performances, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, July 2, 3, and 4, at 7:30 PM. Joining the GRAMMY®-winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee is the Los Angeles Philharmonic, led by Thomas Wilkins. Considered one of Southern California’s top Independence Day pyrotechnic displays, the annual July 4th Fireworks Spectacular at the Bowl has become a local family tradition. Tickets for children ages 12 and under are half price.
Among music legends, Nile Rodgers is truly exceptional. He amplifies his legacy as a multiple GRAMMY-winning composer, producer, arranger, and guitarist by constantly traversing new musical terrain and successfully expanding the boundaries of popular music. As the co-founder of CHIC and the newly elected Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Rodgers pioneered a musical language that generated chart-topping hits like “Le Freak” (the biggest selling single in the history of Atlantic Records) and sparked the advent of hip-hop with “Good Times.” Nile Rodgers transcends all styles of music across every generation with a body of work that has garnered him inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (2017) and the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2016). Most recently, he was appointed as the first ever Chief Creative Advisor for the legendary Abbey Road Studios to cap a year that has included “festival best” performances at both Glastonbury and Coachella, resulting in a nomination for “Best Live Performance of 2017” at the BBC Music Awards and the Los Angeles Times stating “Nile Rodgers’ influence stretches all over Coachella, beaming the sound of a better future.” Rodgers’ work in the CHIC Organization and his productions for artists like David Bowie, Diana Ross, and Madonna have sold over 500 million albums and 75 million singles worldwide, while his innovative, trendsetting collaborations with Daft Punk, Avicii, Sigala, Disclosure, and Sam Smith reflect the vanguard of contemporary music. Nile Rodgers & CHIC recently released their first new studio album in over 26 years to critical acclaim and a Top 10 position on the UK album charts.
Dates for other popular annual concerts at the Hollywood Bowl have also been set, including: Opening Night (June 15), Smooth Summer Jazz (August 18), Movie Night (September 1), and the Sing-A-Long Sound of Music (September 21).
With the Hollywood Bowl serving as the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for nearly 100 years, the 2019 season continues the tradition of offering classical concerts every Tuesday and Thursday night, with star-studded programming.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, under the vibrant leadership of Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel, presents an inspiring array of music from all genres – orchestral, chamber and Baroque music, organ and celebrity recitals, new music, jazz, world music and pop – at two of L.A.’s iconic venues, Walt Disney Concert Hall (laphil.com) and the Hollywood Bowl (hollywoodbowl.com). The LA Phil’s season at Walt Disney Concert Hall extends from September through May and throughout the summer at the Hollywood Bowl. With the preeminent Los Angeles Philharmonic at the foundation of its offerings, the LA Phil aims to enrich and transform lives through music, with a robust mix of artistic, education and community programs.
One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the Hollywood Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922 and plays host to the finest artists from all genres of music, offering something for everyone. It remains one of the best deals anywhere in Los Angeles; to this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many classical and jazz performances. In February 2018, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the 14th year in a row at the 29th Annual Pollstar Awards and in November 2018 was awarded the Top Amphitheater prize at the 2018 Billboard Live Music Awards for the second consecutive year. For millions of music lovers across Southern California, the Hollywood Bowl is synonymous with summer. hollywoodbowl.com
