  • Program Continues Los Angeles Philharmonic's Special Holiday Presentations

    SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20 at 2 PM

    The Los Angeles Philharmonic presents First Lady of Gospel Shirley Caesar in a special holiday program at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, December 20, at 2 p.m. Known for her messages of hope and encouragement, the 11-time Grammy-winning vocalist is joined by the local gospel group Holy Workshop Choir, directed by Tony McGill, for an afternoon of rousing holiday gospel music.

    This special presentation continues the Los Angeles Philharmonic's series of special holiday concerts. The holiday programs at Walt Disney Concert Hall continue with A Merry Mancini Christmas, featuring the Henry Mancini Institute Alumni Orchestra in two shows on December 23 followed by Pink Martini in two New Year's Eve performances.

    Known as the First Lady of Gospel, SHIRLEY CAESAR performed with the Caravans in the '60s before pursuing a professional solo career in 1966. Born in North Carolina, Caesar has received numerous awards for her gospel albums. She has received Grammy Awards for Stand Still, Shirley Caesar Live...He Will Come, Sailin', Rejoice, Celebration and He's Working It Out For You. Between 1981 and 1995 she has received seven Dove Awards for Black Gospel Album of the Year.
