    The Los Angeles Philharmonic continues its Colburn Celebrity Recitals in 2004 with violinist Gidon Kremer on Tuesday, January 20, at 8 p.m. The recital features Kremer performing the works of Russian and Eastern European composers with his ensemble, Kremerata Musica.

    The evening's repertoire includes Valentin Silvestrov's Postludio DSCH for soprano, violin, cello, and piano; Alfred Schnittke's Sonata No. 2 for violin and piano; and Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 1, Piano Sonata No. 1, and Seven Verses for soprano, violin, cello, and piano, Op. 127.

    The Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Musica performance is one of eight recital presentations in the Los Angeles Philharmonic's 2003/2004 Colburn Celebrity Series. The series continues with violinist Hilary Hahn on February 10; violinist Maxim Vengerov with pianist Fazil Say on March 3; baritone Matthias Goerne and pianist Alfred Brendel on March 29; pianist Alfred Brendel on April 6; and pianist András Schiff on May 9.

    In the course of his distinguished career, violinist GIDON KREMER has established a worldwide reputation as one of the most original and compelling artists of his generation. He has appeared on virtually every major concert stage with the most celebrated orchestras of Europe and American and has collaborated with today's foremost conductors and instrumentalists. Kremer's repertoire is extensive, encompassing all of the standard classical and Romantic violin works, as well as music by 20th-century masters. An exceptionally prolific recording artist, Kremer has recorded more than 100 albums. Born in Riga, Latvia in 1947, Kremer studied under David Oistrakh at the Moscow Conservatory.
