The Los Angeles Philharmonic features two guest conductors this week in concerts of classical favorites at the Hollywood Bowl. On August 24, at 8 p.m., Harry Bicket makes his Hollywood Bowl debut conducting music by Salieri, Haydn, and Mendelssohn. On August 26, at 8 p.m., Jaime Laredo leads the Philharmonic in an all-Mozart program. Laredo also serves as the violin soloist for Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3.

Bicket opens Tuesday's concert with the overture to Salieri's opera, The Stolen Bucket, and anchors the program with Haydn's Symphony No. 104, "London." Haydn marveled at London's beauty and composed twelve symphonies during his residency there, though the "London" name attached itself most firmly to Symphony No. 104, in D major. Mendelssohn's Concerto for Violin and Piano, written when the composer was 14, closes the concert, with violinist Yuri Lee and pianist Shai Wosner serving as soloists.

Thursday's concert also opens with an opera overture, this time from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. Laredo then serves as the soloist for Mozart's third violin concerto. The evening ends with Mozart's penultimate Symphony No. 40, a remarkably innovative work that proved hugely inspirational for the new Romantic generation of composers.

Born in Liverpool and educated at the Royal College of Music and at Oxford University, HARRY BICKET has garnered an international reputation as an opera and concert conductor. He has collaborated with the world's finest organizations such as the English National Opera, the New York City Opera, the Royal Danish Opera, the Sydney Symphony, and the San Francisco Symphony. His recordings have earned multiple nominations for Gramophone awards. Bicket makes his Hollywood Bowl debut in this performance.

In more than forty years before the public, JAIME LAREDO has excelled in the multiple roles of soloist, conductor, recitalist and chamber musician. Since his stunning orchestral debut at the age of eleven with the San Francisco Symphony, he has won the admiration and respect of audiences, critics and fellow musicians with his passionate and polished performances. This season, as he has for over 25 years, Laredo will interweave solo and conducting dates with the dense chamber music schedule of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, both here and abroad.

Born in South Korea in 1985, violinist YURA LEE has enjoyed an exceptional career since coming to the United States in 1994. In recent seasons she has appeared with many prestigious orchestras, among them the New York Philharmonic, the Baltimore Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony, the Houston Symphony, the Saint Louis Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Tokyo Philharmonic and the Monte Carlo Philharmonic, among many others. The 1999-2000 season saw her Carnegie Hall debut with Leonard Slatkin and the National Symphony Orchestra, following subscription concerts in Washington, D.C. Ms. Lee now studies with Miriam Fried and Paul Biss and attends the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Yura Lee plays the "Mary Portman" Guarneri del Gesu, Cremona, 1735, on extended loan from Clement Arrison through The Stradivary Society of Chicago.

SHAI WOSNER has been described by The New York Times as "a superb pianist" and by The Financial Times as "an artist to follow keenly." Active as a soloist and chamber musician, he has recently performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Peter Oundjian, the Israel Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta, and the Chicago Symphony under Daniel Barenboim. Mr. Wosner made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2000 with Maestro Barenboim and the Chicago Civic Orchestra. Abroad, he has appeared with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Jerusalem Symphony, among others, and has given recitals in Belgium, Italy and The Netherlands. He is also a regular participant at the annual Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival. He studied at The Juilliard School with pianist Emanuel Ax.
