Music of Bach and the Baroque Era Are Highlighted in Second Chamber Music Society Concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association continues its Chamber Music Society series at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Tuesday, December 14, at 8 p.m. with critically acclaimed countertenor Andreas Scholl, harpsichordist Lucinda Carver, and members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The evening focuses on the Baroque era with the music of Bach, as well as arias by Handel.

Known for his "…liquid tone and amazing technique…" (The London Times), Andreas Scholl interprets arias from Gasparini, Vivaldi, and Handel in an evening of music highlighting the Baroque voice. The concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall also directs attention to the flute with two works by Bach framing Scholl's offerings: the Sonata in B minor for flute, harpsichord, and continuo and the Orchestral Suite in B minor performed in reduced scoring, for flute, string quartet, and harpsichord.

As an exclusive artist to Decca, ANDREAS SCHOLL has released a series of extraordinary solo recordings including Vivaldi Motets with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra; Heroes, a disc of arias by Handel, Mozart, Hasse, and Gluck; Robert Dowland's A Musicall Banquet; Wayfaring Stranger, specially arranged English and American folksongs with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; Arcadia, a collection of rare and unpublished cantatas by composers from Rome's Arcadian Circle with Accademia Bizantina; and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with Les Talens Lyriques and Barbara Bonney under Christophe Rousset. His discography also includes Handel's Saul and Solomon with the Gabrieli Consort under Paul McCreesh, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Monteverdi's Orfeo and 1610 Vespers, and Gramophone Award-winning recordings of Vivaldi's Stabat Mater and Caldara's Maddalna ai piedi di Cristo, all under Rene Jacobs. This season's highlights include a European recital tour with a program of Handel Cantatas and songs by Mozart and Haydn, Handel's Messiah with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and performances in the title role of Handel's Giulio Cesare at Royal Danish Opera, which will be recorded by Decca. Born in Germany, Scholl received musical training with the Kiedricher Chorbuben and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.. He is a winner of the 1999 ECHO Awards, Prix de l'Union de la Presse Musicale Belge, and the Middle Ages/Renaissance category of the 2002 Edison Awards for his recording of A Musicall Banquet.
