  • PIANIST RICHARD GOODE MAKES WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL DEBUT IN RECITAL ON BAROQUE VARIATIONS SERIES
  • Apr. 5, 2006
  • Program includes Works by Johann Sebastian Bach

    WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5, 2006, AT 8 PM

In his first performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall, pianist Richard Goode, who has been acknowledged worldwide as one of today's leading interpreters of Classical and Romantic music, gives a solo recital on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at 8 p.m. The concert is presented as part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association's Baroque Variations Series and features an all-Bach program.

Goode will play Partita No. 2 in C Minor, Partita No. 5 in G Major, Partita No. 6 in E Minor, and selections from "The Well Tempered Clavier," Books I and II. The Partitas are large musical canvases, each comparable in length and ambition to the sonatas of Mozart or Beethoven. The four selections from The Well-Tempered Clavier placed between the Partitas on this program show Bach at work as a miniaturist, no less intense in emotional communication despite the smaller form of a Prelude and accompanying Fugue.

Pianist RICHARD GOODE has been hailed for music making of tremendous emotional power, depth, and expressiveness. In addition to his eight-event Carnegie Hall Perspectives in 2005/2006, Goode has been invited to hold master classes at New York City's three leading conservatories - Juilliard, Manhattan, and Mannes - and to give two illustrated talks on his Perspectives repertoire at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Goode will also play recitals in Europe and the United States, including London, Brussels, Lisbon, Madrid, Leipzig, Rotterdam, Warsaw, Boston, San Francisco, and Philadelphia, in addition to this all-Bach program at Walt Disney Concert Hall. His 2005 collaboration with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Iván Fischer on the five Beethoven Piano Concertos continues with a two-week European tour, including London's Barbican Centre. The concerto cycle will be recorded for Nonesuch. In the winter of 2006, his other orchestral performances include the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Bernard Haitink and the Tonhalle Zurich with David Zinman.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, under Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen, presents the finest in orchestral and chamber music, recitals, new music, jazz, world music and holiday concerts at two of the most remarkable places anywhere to experience music - Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. In addition to a 30-week winter subscription season at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the LA Phil presents a 12-week summer festival at the legendary Hollywood Bowl, summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. In fulfilling its commitment to the community, the Association's involvement with Los Angeles extends to educational programs, community concerts and children's programming, ever seeking to provide inspiration and delight to the broadest possible audience.
