  • LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC OFFERS FOOD-LOVERS A TASTE OF THE BOWL – LITERALLY!
  • Mar. 6, 2002
  • The Hollywood Bowl and picnics are as intertwined as baseball and hot dogs. Now, the world-renowned venue that has brought Music Under the Stars to fans for more than 80 years, is giving people across the nation a taste of the glamour and laid-back luxury of the Bowl with The Hollywood Bowl Cookbook: Picnics Under the Stars. Even better than its recipes, proceeds from the cookbook benefit the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association's Music Matters, a fund for children's music education.

Compiled by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Affiliates, The Hollywood Bowl Cookbook is filled with more than 150 recipes in eight different picnic-friendly categories: Appetizers; Soups, Breads, and Sandwiches; Side Salads; Entree Salads; Entrees; Side Dishes and Quiches; Desserts; …and More. "And More" includes specially submitted recipes from Los Angeles Philharmonic Music Director, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Hollywood Bowl Orchestra Principal Conductor John Mauceri, as well as music legend, Peggy Lee, to name a few.

The Hollywood Bowl Cookbook does more than offer its readers recipes, however. Bowl cookbook owners also take away a historically relevant keepsake with pages of fascinating bits of Hollywood Bowl history, including photos from the venue's past (hardback cover) and copies of original Hollywood Bowl program covers (chapter dividers).

The Hollywood Bowl Cookbook: Picnic Under the Stars is $19.95 and will be available after May 15, 2002 at the Hollywood Bowl Store, and online at laphil.com and hollywoodbowl.com. Advance orders (online only until May 15, 2002) are being accepted for a reduced price of $17.95. Proceeds from The Hollywood Bowl Cookbook will be used for Music Matters and the other community-based music education projects the Los Angeles Philharmonic and its Affiliates support.

The LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC AFFILIATES group is comprised of approximately 1,000 volunteers in 14 independent committees throughout Southern California. It constitutes one of the largest and most active major symphony orchestra support groups in the country. The Affiliates' purpose is to support the Los Angeles Philharmonic in all its activities through the promotion of volunteerism, fundraising, ticket sales, and youth music education programs.
