ABBA The Music, “the best ABBA tribute show in the world,” according to ABBA’s Official International Fanclub, and the wildly popular Neil Diamond tribute band, Super Diamond, return to The Hollywood Bowl for an encore to their 2004 performance, Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 7:30 PM.
In 1996, Katja Nord and Camilla Hedren began performing popular ABBA tributes in clubs throughout Sweden under the moniker, Waterloo. The band’s authentic renditions of ABBA’s greatest hits has propelled a smattering of original ABBA band members to join in on the fun including Lasse Wellander (guitar), Rutger Gunnarsson (bass), Ola Brunkert (drums), Mats Ronnander (guitar and vocals), and Roger Palm (drums). ABBA The Music at the Hollywood Bowl, features two original band members, Ulf Andersson (sax, flute) and Finn Sjoberg (guitar).
From the musical authenticity to the costumes to the light show and beyond, Waterloo’s ABBA The Music has been a genuine homage to one of the most successful pop bands in history for over a decade. ABBA The Music is an international sensation, consistently touring throughout Europe, Asia, and North America and selling out prestigious venues from London’s Royal Albert Hall to Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl. Catering to both the casual and hard core ABBA fan, the band performs ABBA’s major hits, “Mamma Mia,” “Dancing Queen,” and “Waterloo,” as well as selections from deep in the ABBA repertoire, making ABBA the Music the ultimate ABBA fan experience.
San Francisco's Super Diamond has long since transcended the label of "tribute band." Lead by front man "Surreal Neil," Super Diamond passionately immerse themselves in Neil Diamond's huge repertoire and deliver a high-octane show of unforgettable classics such as "Holly Holy," "Sweet Caroline," "Forever in Blue Jeans" and many others. In addition to the thousands of fans who have experienced the band’s unbridled live shows, millions of viewers witnessed them performing a spot-on rendition of “Cracklin’ Rosie” as the musical guests on The Late Show with David Letterman.
One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the HOLLYWOOD BOWL has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922, and is home to the best and brightest in all genres of music. The 2004 season introduced audiences to a revitalized Hollywood Bowl, featuring a newly-constructed shell and stage and the addition of four stadium screens enhancing stage views in the venue. To this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's concerts. While the Bowl is best known for its sizzling summer nights, during the day California's youngest patrons enjoy "SummerSounds: Music for Kids at the Hollywood Bowl," the Southland's most popular summer arts festival for children, now in its 42nd season. In January 2009, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the fifth year in a row at the 20th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards; the Bowl's summer music festival has become as much a part of a Southern California summer as beaches and barbecues, the Dodgers, and Disneyland.
