About this Performance
The exciting conductor on the rise, Tabita Berglund, taps into her Norwegian heritage with music from Grieg’s adventurous Peer Gynt. From its ethereal impression of a desert sunrise to its menacing march of trolls, gnomes, and goblins, the suite paints countless engrossing scenes with some of classical music’s most recognizable melodies.
In the first half of the night, Brahms specialist Hélène Grimaud takes on one of her all-time favorite works. The First Piano Concerto—equally youthful and tender as it is intense and victorious—is what Grimaud calls “a piece I need to survive.”
