About this Performance
When the world wants to celebrate big, it turns to Beethoven’s last completed symphony, one of the supreme achievements in Western music. His visionary aspiration of all mankind in unity has inspired millions all over the world since its premiere, which was completely unheard by the deaf composer except in his imagination. The concert begins with a world premiere by young Pulitzer winner and singer Caroline Shaw, which, perhaps surprisingly, is for instruments alone.See other concerts in this series
