The Hollywood Bowl Museum is a celebration of one of Los Angeles' most historic landmarks - a venue that has played a major role in music and entertainment, and has helped shape the careers of some of the most famous performers of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Welcome to the Hollywood Bowl Museum’s permanent display, where artifacts and stories are connected by five themes: the beloved Los Angeles park, the people who built and care for it, a community-building ethos, making music, and the Bowl’s distinct visual appeal. These threads remain constant as music, the landscape, and Los Angeles continue to evolve.

Currently on view at the Hollywood Bowl Museum, Building the Bowl: From Dream to Destination focuses on six of the central founding figures of the Hollywood Bowl—Christine Wetherill Stevenson, Dr. T. Perceval Gerson, Charles E. Toberman, Artie Mason Carter, Frederick W. Blanchard, and Florence M. Irish—each of whom played a distinctive role in its history.

Picture Perfect: Photos of the Hollywood Bowl by Otto Rothschild (1906-1981) was the first exhibition in the museum’s history solely dedicated to the work and legacy of Otto Rothschild.

This exhibition documented the LA Phil in performance at our iconic summer venue during the mid-to-late 1950s, through the innovative stereo recordings of pioneering acrylics manufacturer, music lover, and audio enthusiast David Swedlow.

Summer Nights: Jazz at the Bowl took nearly 19,000 patrons on a journey through the history of jazz performance at the Hollywood Bowl from the earliest days of the swing era through the modern age.

This 2016 exhibition explored the LA Phil’s longstanding efforts to keep aircraft out of the skies above the Hollywood Bowl during performances. Since the 1970s, these efforts have included outreach to aviation organizations and the distribution of “no fly” posters to help preserve the Bowl’s quiet, open-air concert experience.

Without even looking at the dates, it is easy to place these Hollywood Bowl program covers in their corresponding decade. From the Art Deco designs of the mid-1920s through the expressionist style of the mid-1930s, the modern futurist aesthetic of the mid-1950s and beyond, these programs provide a visual history with the power to transport you back to a magical night in any decade spent under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl.
