Music icon, legendary trumpeter, bandleader, philanthropist, visual artist and seven-time Grammy-winner Herb Alpert and his wife of 36 years, Grammy-winning singer Lani Hall, come to Walt Disney Concert Hall as part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 2009/10 Songbook series, Friday, January 29, at 8 p.m. The duo performs songs from Anything Goes, their first complete album together and Alpert’s first new CD in 10 years.
Alpert, on trumpet and vocals and Halls, vocals, are joined on stage by Michael Shapiro, drums, Bill Cantos, piano and Hussain Jiffry, bass.
Anything Goes, a live collection of re-interpreted standards, is a love letter between Alpert and Hall and a tribute to their enduring personal and professional relationship. The performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall is the final stop on a 22-city album tour across the country.
Alpert has sold more than 72 million albums worldwide as a musician and bandleader of the ground-breaking group, the Tijuana Brass.
The performance continues the LA Phil’s 2009/10 Songbook series, which features intimate performances by some of the foremost talents in contemporary American music. Each year since its inception, the LA Phil Songbook series has brought audiences some of the most cherished evenings of song. The 2009/10 series concludes with Patti LuPone – Matters of the Heart, Saturday, May 15, 2010.
