CYNTHIA CLAREY is an artist with a wide range of concert and operatic versatility. Throughout her career, Clarey has been associated with the role of Carmen, which she has sung not only in traditional settings, but also in large-scale arena productions in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Japan. She has appeared in major roles in the important opera houses and concert halls of Europe. In the United States, she has performed with the opera companies of Chicago, Dallas, New York, Seattle, Santa Fe, Saint Louis, and the Tri-Cities Opera in Binghamton, New York, as well as with such major orchestras as the Chicago Symphony, the Boston Symphony, and the New York Philharmonic, among others.

Her discography includes Berg’s Lulu, with Jeffrey Tate conducting on EMI/Angel; Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess with Simon Rattle on EMI/Angel; and two works by Sir Michael Tippett: The Ice Break with David Atherton on EMI/Virgin Classics, and A Child of our Time with Richard Hickox conducting on Chandos. She is also heard on the Cole Porter Centennial Gala on Teldec and Kurt Weill’s Lost in the Stars with Julius Rudel on Musicmasters. Cynthia Clarey grew up in North Carolina and studied voice at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and at the Juilliard School in New York City. She makes her debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at these performances.
