James Cromwell

JAMES CROMWELL (Sheldrake) was nominated for an Oscar for his memorable performance as Farmer Hoggett in the 1995 smash-hit movie Babe, and recently finished his role as George Sibley on HBO's Six Feet Under. His first film, Neil Simon's Murder by Death, cast him with such movie greats as Alec Guiness, Maggie Smith, Peter Sellers, David Niven, and Peter Falk. Cromwell's recent film work includes The Longest Yard (2005), I Robot (2004), and upcoming films The Queen, to be released later this year, and Becoming Jane, and Spiderman 3, set for release in 2007. Cromwell has also performed in some of the theater's most revered plays, in many of the country's most distinguished regional theaters.

Cromwell was born in Los Angeles and grew up in suburban New York and Waterford, Connect-icut, and studied acting and directing at Carnegie Mellon (then Carnegie Tech). He is married to actress and director Julie Cobb, the daughter of the late Lee J. Cobb. The couple and their four children live in Los Angeles. Cromwell is founder of Hecel Oyakapi, a foundation committed to preserving the language and culture of the Oglala Lakota through the arts.
