PAUL CURRAN is a graduate in Directing (1992) of the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, and of the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki. His directorial credits include Tannhäuser, Teatro alla Scala Milan; Peter Grimes, Santa Fe Opera; Ariadne auf Naxos and Daphne, Teatro La Fenice, Venice; Peter Grimes and Otello, Teatro Giuseppe Verdi, Trieste; La Cenerentola, A Midsummer Night's Dream, La Statira (Cavalli), and Die Königskinder (Humperdinck), Teatro San Carlo in Naples (winner of the Premio Abbiati 2003 for Königskinder - Best Production); La finta giardiniera, Garsington Opera; Tristan und Isolde for BBC in London; Il trovatore, Teatro Dell'Opera Rome, Teatro Comunale Bologna; Mirandolina (Martinu°), Wexford Festival and Teatro Rossini Lugo; A Florentine Tragedy/Miserly Knight, Teatro São Carlos Lisbon; Les contes d' Hoffmann, Central City Opera; I Capuleti e I Montecchi, Spoleto Festival USA; Prince Igor (Borodin) with the Kirov Opera; the British premiere of Kullervo (Aulis Sallinen) UCO in London; Hamlet (Thomas) with designer Vivienne Westwood for the Clerkenwell Music Series; A Midsummer Night's Dream, Pittsburgh Opera and Central City Opera; A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Man of La Mancha, Covent Garden Festival (also recorded on CD); A Little Night Music, OSU Columbus, Ohio; I Gioielli della Madonna (Wolf-Ferrari), UCO, and also Rigoletto and Die Zauberflöte. He was associate director for Le coq d'or (Rimsky-Korsakov) at Covent Garden and Rome Opera, The Demon (Rubinstein) in Zurich and at the Bregenz Festival, and Les contes d'Hoffmann in Washington, Los Angeles, and at the Kirov Opera.
Plays that he has directed include The Bear, Torch Song Trilogy, Hamlet, The Lodger, Faust Pt 1, Uncle Vanya, Hedda Gabler, The Misanthropist, Tartuffe, and others.
