The British pianist JULIUS DRAKE works with many of the world's leading vocal and instrumental artists both in recital and on record.
In the field of vocal recitals he collaborates with Sir Thomas Allen, Olaf Bär, Barbara Bonney, Ian Bostridge, Michael Chance, Wolfgang Holzmair, Lorraine Hunt, Felicity Lott, Katarina Karneus, Simon Keenlyside, Christopher Maltman, Edith Mathis, Patricia Rozario, Joan Rodgers and Willard White. Instrumental recitals at leading international festivals such as Kuhmo in Finland and Saintes in France have lead to collaborations with Christian Altenburger, Natalie Clein, Robert Cohen, Michael Collins, Nicholas Daniel, Emma Johnson and Ernst Kovacic.
Recordings include French Song with Hugues Cuenod (Chandos), French Sonatas with Nicholas Daniel (Virgin), Britten Song recorded live at Wigmore Hall, London with Derek Lee Ragin (Etcetera), Haydn Canzonettas with Christoph Genz (Edel), Schumann's Liederkreis with Sophie Danernan (EMI) and The English Songbook, Schubert Lieder and Schumann Lieder (winner of a 1998 Gramophone Award) with Ian Bostridge (EMI).
In the 2000/2001 season Julius Drake will coordinate ten days of chamber music and song at Perth International Festival, Australia, and record for Hyperion a disc of Ivor Gurney's songs with Paul Agnew. In summer 2000 Drake gave masterclasses for singer/piano duos at the Art Song festival in Cleveland, Ohio.
Forthcoming concerts include three recitals at the Austrian Schubertiade with Ian Bostridge, recitals in Montreal and New York with Gerald Finley, a Wigmore Hall Recital broadcast live with Angelica Kirchschlager, and staged performance of Janácek's Diary of One Who Vanished in Amsterdam, Munich, London, and New York.
