About this Artist

Conductor MATT DUNKLEY is deeply honored to be working with the distinguished Los Angeles Philharmonic for the first time. He arranged the original soundtrack music for Robot, Warriors, Couples Retreat, The Rising, and 127 Hours, but he has made new orchestrations and re-arranged every piece here to make them suitable for concert performance. Matt first worked with A.R. Rahman back in 2002, when Rahman was in London and needed an arrangerconductor for a soundtrack he had written for the movie The Legend of Bhagat Singh. This coincided with Rahman’s desire to explore new “Western” orchestral colors in his movie scores, and so Dunkley’s experience in orchestral arranging for Hollywood movies was a perfect fit. They have struck up a real musical and personal friendship, and worked on many movie soundtracks together. Last year, they presented a celebration of Rahman’s orchestral film music at a sold-out concert at London’s Royal Festival Hall with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and this Hollywood Bowl concert is another exciting opportunity to share Rahman’s orchestral music in a live setting. This special concert premieres new suites from Robot and 127 Hours, as well as new orchestral arrangements of three songs: “Chan Chan,” “Changing Seasons,” and “Jai Ho.” Work began with six months of planning; personnel, song selections, and repertoire were carefully selected to represent the many facets of Rahman’s talent.
