Marley Erickson

MARLEY ERICKSON, 13, is a student of Simon James and collaborative pianist Hiro David of Seattle's Coleman Violin Studio. Marley has performed as soloist with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, L'Accademia d'archi Arrigoni, Mitteleuropa Orchestra, and will perform with the Port Angeles Symphony in their upcoming season. She made her solo orchestral debut with the Ottawa Chamber Symphony at age 11.

Marley has competed in international competitions, including the 2016 Menuhin International Violin Competition, Il Piccolo Violino Magico, and later this month will travel to Germany for the 8th International Louis Spohr Competition for Young Violinists.

Since 2012 Marley has won top awards in the Seattle Symphony Young Artist Auditions, MTNA State and Northwest Regionals, SMTA Simon-Fiset Competition, Port Angeles Symphony Young Artist Competition, Seattle Young Artist Music Festival, and Il Piccolo Violino. Whidbey Island Center for the Arts awarded her a solo concert engagement in their 2017 Local Artist Series.

Marley has attended Cambridge International Strings Academy, the Brian Lewis Young Artist Program, Encore Chamber Music Academy, Japan-Seattle Suzuki Institute, and has been a member of the Seattle Youth Orchestras. She is an annual recipient of a Turtle Bluff music scholarship in Port Townsend and has performed in many benefit concerts supporting the arts, medical research, and third world countries.

Enthusiasts of contemporary music, Marley and her siblings recently commissioned a trio from northwest composer Jerry Mader. They performed the premiere of Suite de Diner for the Port Angeles Symphony earlier this month.

Marley is honored to have studied previously with Jan Coleman and Pat Yearian, and to have had lessons and master classes with Paul Kantor, Frank Almond, Tasmin Little, Brian Lewis, Gerardo Ribeiro, Mimi Zweig, Sandy Yamamoto, James Stern, Ingrid Matthews, So-Ock Kim, Joe Genualdi, David Halen, Stephen Shipps, Tasmin Little, Keng-Yuen Tseng, Hu Kun, Danielle Belen, and Rodney Friend, among others.

Marley is a homeschooler and enjoys the companionship of two younger siblings whom she encourages in their own musical pursuits. Marley creates art in a variety of media, enjoys fashion design, tennis, gardening, historical fiction, Classical architecture, and photography. She plays a 2013 David Gusset violin.
