Born in Valencia, CRISTINA FAUS (La Abuela) studied singing with Ana Luisa Chova, graduating with honors. She later attended several repertoire interpretation masterclasses with Elena Obraztsova, Renata Scotto, Montserrat Caballé, Bruno de Simone, Robert Expert, Miguel Zanetti, Alejandro Zabala, and Wolfgang Rieger, among others.

First Prize winner at the International Singing Competition “Toti dal Monte” in Treviso, she has performed at the majority of the most important Spanish concert halls and houses, and has participated in various occasions in the Rossini Festival in Pessaro, and at the Teatro de la Fenice, as well as in a Japanese tour through Tokyo and Osaka. She has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Roberto Abbado, Antoni Ros Marbà, Manuel Galduf, Enrique García Asensio, Alberto Zedda, Maximiliano Stefanelli, and Giancarlo Andretta.

Her operatic repertoire covers the major pieces from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods: Alcina, Falstaff, The Barber of Seville, L’arbore di Diana by Martín y Soler, The Marriage of Figaro, Così fan tutte, Rigoletto, La Cenerentola, and La sonnambula, among others. In her concert and oratorio repertoire one can find multiple Bach cantatas, as well as the Magnificat and the Saint John and Saint Matthew Passions, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Membra Jesu Nostri by Buxtehude, Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, Requiems by Mozart and Dvorˇák, the Christmas Oratorio by Saint-Saëns, Das Lied von der Erde by Mahler, and many more.

Cristina Faus has recorded for labels such as Deutsche Grammophon and NHK, and she has recently recorded a DVD of the Baroque Spanish operetta (zarzuela) La Clementina, by Luigi Boccherini.
