About this Artist
In 1996, Ry Cooder traveled to Havana to record with a group of legendary Cuban musicians whose careers had been restricted under the Castro regime; they perform at the Bowl as Buena Vista Social Club Presents ORQUESTA IBRAHIM FERRER with Special Guest Rubén González. The recording became Buena Vista Social Club, and has become one of the best-selling world music albums of all time, with an Academy Award-winning movie (directed by Wim Wenders) documenting their spirited live performances. Included in the line-up of world-class musicians are vocalist Ibrahim Ferrer and Afro-Cuban pianist Rubén González. This performance marks Ibrahim Ferrer and Rubén González’s Hollywood Bowl debuts.
